United Russia won 349 of 450 seats in Russia's new State Duma, a record majority in elections held September 18-20 that were widely dubbed the most uncompetitive in modern Russian history, with genuine opposition barred from the ballot. Preliminary analysis found roughly one in three new lawmakers has ties to the war in Ukraine, including 46-49 'special military operation' participants, some accused of war crimes; Putin said the turnout showed Russians support the military agenda. Meduza's own analysis called it the dirtiest parliamentary election of the Putin era. The first post-election protest over alleged fraud drew about 100 people in Syktyvkar, organized by the Communist Party's regional branch.
