The Smithsonian/USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity report for September 10-16, 2026 detailed ongoing eruptive activity at numerous volcanoes worldwide, including new Strombolian eruptions and ash plumes at Krakatau (Indonesia), continuing ash emissions and high sulfur dioxide output at Aira/Sakurajima (Japan), Dukono and Ibu (Indonesia), Kanlaon and Mayon (Philippines), Karangetang (Indonesia), Lewotolok (Indonesia, with new lava flows), Great Sitkin and Kilauea (United States), and Klyuchevskoy and Krasheninnikov (Russia). Most sites remained at low-to-moderate alert levels (Level 2 or Yellow) with localized exclusion zones of 2-4 km, and no casualties or major damage were reported at any site during the week; activity is characterized as routine continuation of long-running eruptions rather than new escalation.
