A federal jury in San Diego awarded haptics company Taction Technology more than $5.7 billion in damages after finding Apple infringed two of its patents covering vibration-based tactile transducer technology. Taction, which sued Apple in 2021, argued the Taptic Engine used in Apple Watches and iPhones was built on technology it had developed. The verdict is one of the largest patent damage awards in recent tech history.
