A federal jury in San Diego awarded Taction Technology over $5.7 billion in damages after finding Apple infringed two of its patents covering vibration-based tactile transducer technology. Taction, which sued Apple in 2021, argued that the Taptic Engine used in Apple Watches and iPhones relied on technology it had developed. The massive award is among the largest patent verdicts in recent memory and could prompt an appeal, while raising questions about licensing costs for haptic feedback technology across the consumer electronics industry.
