Former WSJ reporter Evan Gershkovich, the first U.S. journalist arrested on espionage charges in Russia since the Cold War, said in memoir excerpts that his 2023 arrest was a carefully planned FSB sting. He also recounted that Putin spent more than an hour trying to convince a world leader that Gershkovich really was a spy.
