A powerful, deadly nor'easter — described as the first significant storm of the fall season — struck the US East Coast from North Carolina to New England over the weekend of Sept. 25-27, 2026. The storm brought heavy winds, flooding and hazardous ocean conditions, knocking down trees and power lines; at least one person was killed and roughly 110,500 households remained without power as of Monday. Forecasters said the storm threatened to affect as many as 40 million people across multiple states. The nor'easter arrived amid an unusually active period of Atlantic and Pacific tropical activity, with three separate hurricanes simultaneously churning in the Pacific, including one threatening catastrophic flooding in Hawaii.
