Florida has intensified its legal campaign against OpenAI. The state invoked extinction fears, calling large language models 'the greatest public nuisance ever created' in a bid to halt OpenAI's development, and Attorney General James Uthmeier separately asked a judge to bar OpenAI from letting ChatGPT mimic human traits, arguing its use of first-person language and emotional cues deceptively makes users feel it is a trustworthy friend. The actions follow an earlier Florida lawsuit against OpenAI over safety concerns and represent one of the most aggressive state-level legal challenges to a major AI company to date.
