On September 27-28, Russia launched one of its largest recent drone and missile waves against Kyiv and the surrounding oblast, striking dozens of sites including the National Academy of Sciences (killing at least two, including an aide to a former defense council secretary), the Dobrobut medical centre, the Darnytsia pharmaceutical plant (hit for the third time in six days), Kyivstar and Ukrtelecom facilities, a Datagroup data center, ATB supermarket warehouses in Brovary, an apartment building in Darnytskyi district, and the Stolychnyi market in Sofiivska Borshchahivka. At least 24 people were injured and several killed across the city on September 28 alone, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, with additional casualties reported in Kyiv Oblast including an Azerbaijani national; the Saudi ambassador's residence and several schools were also damaged. The strikes underscore Russia's continued campaign against Ukrainian infrastructure, telecoms, energy and civilian targets in the capital region. Ukrainian air defence reported downing dozens of drones nightly but strikes still hit numerous locations, prompting warnings from Kyiv's mayor and Ukraine's prime minister for residents to prepare alternative winter housing amid expected power and heating disruptions.
