The Smithsonian/USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity report for Sept 10-16 documented continuing eruptive activity at numerous volcanoes worldwide, including Krakatau and Dukono in Indonesia (ash plumes and Strombolian eruptions), Aira/Sakurajima in Japan (ash plumes and high sulfur dioxide emissions), Great Sitkin in the US (slow lava effusion), Ibu, Lewotolok and Karangetang in Indonesia (daily ash emissions and lava flows), Kanlaon and Mayon in the Philippines (ash emissions and elevated seismicity), Kilauea in Hawaii (episodic lava fountaining), and Klyuchevskoy and Krasheninnikov in Russia (thermal anomalies and lava flows). All volcanoes remained at low-to-moderate alert levels (mostly Level 2 of 4 or Yellow), with local aviation and exclusion-zone advisories in place but no reports of casualties or major damage.
