Tropical Storm Rachel formed in the eastern Pacific and has been moving west-northwestward parallel to the coast of southwestern Mexico, with the National Hurricane Center tracking it a few hundred miles southwest of Acapulco as of Sept 28-29. As of the latest advisory, Rachel had maximum sustained winds of about 60 mph and a minimum central pressure of 997 mb, with satellite imagery showing an improving but still sheared structure. GDACS data indicate no population has yet been affected by category-1-or-higher winds, and the storm has not made landfall. Forecasters continue to monitor its track near the Mexican coast.
