A strong nor'easter, described as the first significant fall storm of the season, battered the US East Coast from North Carolina to New England over the weekend of Sept 26-28, bringing high winds, heavy rain, coastal flooding and hazardous ocean conditions. At least one person was killed, and about 110,500 households remained without power in the storm's aftermath, with forecasters warning up to 40 million people across multiple states could be affected. Trees and power lines were downed across the region, disrupting travel and electricity service as the storm moved through, coinciding with an active Pacific hurricane season including Hurricane Polo and Hurricane Nolo.
