Amid the ongoing US-Israeli war on Iran, President Trump said he does not know if Tehran will "give up yet" and separately claimed the war would end "very soon" without giving details, while rejecting an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days. Iran's foreign minister said Tehran was awaiting mediators' "definitive" response and that only negotiation can end the conflict, while Iran's Supreme National Security Council secretary Mohsen Rezaei said Trump is "trapped in a quagmire" unable to negotiate or fight. Iran has also threatened to attack Middle East infrastructure if its Hormuz de-escalation offer is rejected, reportedly seeking US concessions, relief for the Houthis and shipping control as part of the deal. Despite the impasse, oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz have climbed to about 77 percent of pre-war levels, and US-Iran talks continued on the sidelines in New York. Inside Iran, soaring living costs are seen as a driver pushing Tehran toward diplomacy, while ordinary Iranians are reported to be stockpiling food and medicine amid fears of renewed fighting and worsening shortages caused by sanctions and blockade.
