Google unveiled Gemini 4 Argon, which it calls its most powerful AI model yet, touting frontier performance in software engineering, enterprise knowledge work, and especially cybersecurity defense. Chief AI architect Koray Kavukcuoglu said the model is so capable that Google is initially limiting access to a select group of 'trusted cyber defenders' while coordinating with the U.S. government on safe deployment. The launch effectively supersedes the recent Gemini 3.5 Pro release. The restricted rollout is notable because it marks one of the first times a major AI lab has openly gated a flagship model release over security concerns rather than releasing broadly, drawing attention from industry watchers about how frontier AI capabilities are being managed amid rising cybersecurity risks.
