Overnight on September 29-30, Russia attacked Ukraine with Zircon and Oniks anti-ship missiles, Iskander-M and S-400 ballistic missiles, and 188 drones; Ukrainian air defense said it downed 160 of these threats as well as 254 of 285 drones launched the following day. Strikes hit Kyiv, Kyiv Oblast, Brovary, Dnipro, Sumy, Kharkiv and Kramatorsk, killing at least a child and several adults and injuring dozens more. A Russian Geran-4 drone crashed into a Kyiv playground without detonating, debris landed at a Western embassy in central Kyiv, and smoke from the strikes blanketed the capital. In Sumy, guided aerial bombs killed two and injured nine including children on September 29, with a further six injured in a separate strike the next day. Kramatorsk's social welfare office was destroyed by a guided bomb attack injuring three, while a Kharkiv strike injured a child. The wave of attacks underscores an intensifying Russian campaign against Ukrainian cities as winter approaches.
