Bangkok was declared a disaster-affected zone in late September 2026 after an active low-pressure cell brought continuous heavy rainfall, with more than 300-330mm of rain falling over 48 hours in parts of the Thai capital. Streets were submerged in waist-high water, homes, shops and canals overflowed, and residents navigated flooded streets by boat; roughly 4,900 people were evacuated to shelters and about 52,000 households were affected. A related green flood alert for Thailand covering October 5-7 suggests continuing flood risk in the country. Thailand is accustomed to wet-season flooding, but residents said this year's deluge was unusually severe. The disaster has disrupted transport and displaced thousands, with cleanup efforts beginning as waters receded in some areas.
