Fighting intensified across Yemen as explosions were reported in Houthi-controlled Sanaa and other cities including Taiz, Saada, and Amran, coinciding with a Yemeni cabinet meeting to plan a new offensive against the Houthis, who have seized territory since August. The Saudi-led coalition accused the Houthis of striking a power station in Medina, Saudi Arabia, while also claiming heavy losses inflicted on Houthi forces in Taiz; the Yemeni army separately claimed to have killed or wounded hundreds of Houthi fighters across 468 operations on multiple fronts. Separately, US authorities arrested an Energy Department employee accused of attempting to provide material support to the Houthis, a designated terrorist organization backed by Iran. The incidents underscore how the renewed Yemeni civil war and Houthi attacks on shipping and regional targets continue to threaten regional stability and global oil markets.
