Violence surged in the West Bank during the olive harvest season, with Israeli settlers reportedly shooting dead a Palestinian resident, Mashhour Shaher Yassin, in the village of Yasuf in the Salfit district, and separately killing another Palestinian elsewhere while an Israeli drone strike killed a Palestinian in Gaza. Settlers also attacked and set fire to homes in another West Bank village, blocking a Palestinian family from returning home, and assaulted Israeli rights activists, injuring five. A funeral was held for one of the slain Palestinians as Palestinian Authority officials condemned the killings. Analysts note that settler attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank have reached unprecedented levels, raising concerns about accountability as Israeli police opened investigations into some incidents while settler violence continues largely unchecked.
