A federal judge, Amit Mehta, dismissed antitrust lawsuits brought by Chegg and Penske Media Corporation (owner of Rolling Stone) against Google over its AI-powered search features, including AI Overviews and AI search summaries. The plaintiffs had argued Google abused monopoly power by diverting web traffic away from publishers using AI-generated answers. The court acknowledged that AI search carries real consequences for publishers but ruled those harms do not amount to an antitrust violation under existing law, siding with Google in a ruling issued this week.
