Researchers found that the APOE4 gene, a major genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's, may actively damage brain blood vessels and impair the cellular systems responsible for clearing harmful proteins. In experiments, scientists were able to partially reverse these effects, identifying promising new drug targets for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and other neurodegenerative diseases.
