On October 1, Russian forces launched a wave of drone strikes on Kyiv, hitting the Pivdennyi (South) Bridge three times in one day and striking the Southern Bridge carrying both road and subway traffic — the first attack on the capital's bridges since the full-scale invasion began, briefly halting metro and surface transit. A drone also struck a school building in the Solomianskyi district while children and teachers sheltered inside (no casualties), caused a fire at a nearby café, damaged a warehouse in Obolonskyi district, and debris fell on a 25-storey residential building causing a fire. A drone also hit the Institute for Nuclear Research, though the reactor was unharmed. Separately, Russian strikes on Kyiv Oblast the evening before injured a woman and damaged buildings in five districts, and Russians destroyed equipment at the Parkovyi data centre in Kyiv. Officials noted Russian attacks have damaged one in three educational institutions in Kyiv (334 schools), and the city has returned to scheduled power outages as the grid strains under repeated strikes.
