Hurricane Rachel has been holding fairly steady as a powerful major-level hurricane several hundred miles south of the southern tip of Baja California Sur, Mexico. As of the evening of October 1, 2026, NHC advisories placed Rachel near 19.5N 109.9W with maximum sustained winds near 120 mph and a minimum central pressure of 950 mb, moving slowly west-northwest at about 3 mph. GDACS logged Rachel as an active hurricane/typhoon-strength system in the Eastern Pacific from September 27 through at least October 2. Forecasters note the storm's convective structure has changed little over recent advisories, with a ragged eye persisting amid deep, cold cloud tops. While reported population exposure to category-1-strength winds currently stands at zero, the slow movement and strength of Rachel keep it under close watch for any shift toward land.
