The New York Muslim Film Festival (NYMFF), launching October 11 at Manhattan's SVA Theatre and billed as the city's first dedicated to Muslim filmmakers, unveiled its lineup and jury. Artistic director Hassan Babar said the festival aims to move past flattened, stereotyped portrayals of Muslims common in Western media by letting filmmakers tell their own stories. The festival represents a new platform intended to showcase authentic storytelling from Muslim creators.
