Researchers found that the Alzheimer's risk gene APOE4 may actively damage brain blood vessels and impair the cellular systems that clear harmful proteins from the brain. In experiments, scientists were able to reverse some of these effects, revealing promising new therapeutic targets. The discovery could inform future treatments not only for Alzheimer's but also for Parkinson's and other neurodegenerative diseases.
