Ukraine carried out drone strikes overnight on October 1-2 against Russian oil infrastructure, hitting the Volgograd Oil Refinery, a Samara oil pipeline control station, and industrial sites in Krasnodar, along with reported strikes on airfields, a rocket and space centre and an ammunition depot. Russia's Defense Ministry said it intercepted 646 drones overnight across the country; Volgograd's governor confirmed a 'massive drone attack on industrial infrastructure' that sparked a residential fire and injured one person, while fires were also reported near the Volgograd refinery and the Kaustik chemical plant. The strikes are part of Ukraine's sustained campaign against Russian energy and military-industrial targets, which Russian officials, including Energy Minister Novak, have acknowledged is straining the sector and keeping the situation 'tense.'
