Severe flooding has inundated Bangkok after days of heavy rain and thunderstorms linked to an active low-pressure cell over central Thailand. City officials declared a disaster zone across all 50 districts, with streets turned into waist-high stagnant lakes, residents navigating by boat, and thousands sheltering after homes and roads were submerged. More than 330mm of rain fell in parts of the city over four days, and at least 40 deaths have been reported, prompting warnings from experts that such extreme flooding will worsen across south-east Asia. A GDACS green flood alert for Thailand (Oct 5-7) reflects continuing flood conditions in the region, though it reports no additional deaths or displacement for that update window. The flooding coincided with reports of Hurricane Nolo threatening Hawaii's Big Island, as rainstorms shifted direction across the Pacific basin.
