Hurricane Rachel moved westward past Socorro Island in the Eastern Pacific, with the National Hurricane Center tracking the storm through multiple advisories on Oct 2-3. As of 8pm MST Friday, Rachel was centered near 19.4N 111.5W, about 265 miles south-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, with maximum sustained winds near 100 mph (85 kt) and a minimum central pressure of 966 mb, moving west at about 4-5 mph. Forecasters expect some weakening over the next several days as the storm, active since Sept 27, continues to affect Mexico with cyclone-force winds. A related GDACS flood alert reported a flood event beginning in Mexico on Oct 5, lasting through Oct 7, with 51 people displaced and no deaths reported.
