A co-pilot identified as Hamam al-Hammami allegedly attacked the captain of a Flydubai flight bound for Tel Aviv with a cockpit emergency axe, causing the plane to plunge more than 17,000 feet before it was diverted and passengers subdued the attacker, with one passenger reportedly putting him in a chokehold. Passengers described terrifying moments, including one man recounting hugging his children as the plane nosedived; the captain, Indian pilot Smit Machchhar, was hailed as a hero after being stabbed defending the aircraft.
