Hurricane Nolo, active in the Central Pacific since mid-September, reached peak winds of 250 km/h and was located several hundred miles northwest of the main Hawaiian Islands as of October 3-4, 2026, with the National Hurricane Center issuing advisories on its track toward the islands. GDACS classified it as a green-level cyclone notification, though no population was yet estimated to be affected by Category 1-level winds. The storm followed a stretch of rough seas and storms in the region that are believed to have contributed to the collapse of Hawaii's centuries-old Hōlei sea arch, a 90-foot rock formation in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park that had stood for roughly 550 years before falling into the Pacific, as confirmed by the National Park Service on Friday, October 2.
