GDACS and USGS recorded several minor-to-moderate earthquakes around the world over October 3-4, 2026, none reported to have caused casualties or significant population impact. These included a magnitude 4.9 quake in the South Sandwich Islands region, a magnitude 4.9 quake at depth near Papua New Guinea (potentially affecting 600,000 people within 100km), a magnitude 4.2 quake near Wauna, Washington in the US, a magnitude 4.5 deep quake in the Celebes Sea, a magnitude 4.5 quake in Mexico, a magnitude 5.1 quake off Kamchatka's east coast, and a magnitude 4.7 quake near Korumburra, Australia. All were rated green-level alerts with no deaths, injuries or significant damage reported.
