South Korean conservative politicians and online critics have accused Hur Jin-ho's box-office hit 'The Assassin(s),' a thriller about the 1974 shooting of first lady Yuk Young-soo, of historically distorting events, with the backlash spilling onto the film's cast and crew. The Directors Guild of Korea publicly rallied behind the filmmaking team amid the controversy, even as the film continued to hold the top spot in admissions at the South Korean box office over the Oct. 2-4 weekend, narrowly outpacing 'Chiikawa the Movie' in admissions despite the Japanese animated feature earning the top weekend gross.
