A two-year randomized clinical trial of 493 overweight or obese adults found that diet soft drinks sweetened with aspartame, acesulfame-K, or sucralose were essentially as effective as water for long-term weight loss and maintenance. Both groups also saw similar improvements in waist size, body composition, and metabolic measures, adding evidence to the debate over artificial sweeteners and weight management.
