Scientists discovered that a human gene called BC200, which plays a role in brain cells, retains the ability to jump around the genome, a trait inherited from its ancestral origin as a mobile transposon. Researchers also found BC200 embedded inside a human poxvirus, suggesting the gene may have jumped from infected skin cells into the virus, a finding that could reshape understanding of gene mobility in the human brain.
