Britain's Green Party voted at its Brighton conference, by 1,022 to 813, to declare Zionism a form of racism, making the party officially anti-Zionist and backing a single democratic state in historic Palestine. The resolution triggered international controversy and debate, recalling the UN's 1975 resolution equating Zionism with racism, which Britain later lobbied to revoke. Commentators linked the vote to wider cracks in British political consensus on Israel-Palestine, including arguments that the two-state solution championed by Foreign Secretary David Miliband is effectively dead, and renewed scrutiny of the Balfour Declaration's legacy. The Green Party is also mounting a political challenge in Keir Starmer's former Holborn constituency partly on a pro-Palestine platform.
