An Omani Flydubai co-pilot, named in reports as Hamam al-Hammami, attacked the captain with an axe and attempted to take control of a flight bound for Tel Aviv, reportedly intending to crash the plane. The captain, Smit Machchhar, managed to let others into the cockpit to subdue the attacker, while the plane nosedived more than 17,000 feet before passengers, including families with children, survived the ordeal. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said the attacker showed signs of 'Islamist radical indoctrination,' and Australian authorities said they are investigating the co-pilot's links to the country. The incident has prompted international scrutiny of aviation security on flights to Israel.
