The UN refugee agency reported that more than 130,000 people have been displaced inside Yemen since early August amid renewed fighting between government forces and the Houthis, with nearly 3,700 fleeing to Djibouti since mid-September. The WHO said 959 people were killed and over 4,200 wounded nationwide between August 4 and October 2, as residents in Taiz voiced fears over worsening food and fuel shortages. In response, France pledged an additional $3.36 million in humanitarian assistance to Yemen, bringing its 2026 total to more than $7 million, citing the Houthi offensive in the Bab al-Mandab strait as triggering a new humanitarian shock.
