Google DeepMind, Meta, and AI drug discovery startup Isomorphic Labs are jointly investing $300 million into Biohub, the nonprofit biomedical research organization founded by Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan. The funding is part of a broader $1.8 billion initiative to build AI datasets and tools that could enable researchers to digitally model, predict, and answer fundamental biological questions, accelerating discovery in disease prevention and management. Biohub, founded in 2016, aims to develop what researchers call a "virtual cell"—computational models that simulate cellular behavior and interactions. The collaborative investment from major tech companies reflects growing recognition that artificial intelligence and computational biology represent critical frontiers in biomedical research, potentially enabling faster development of treatments for complex diseases by allowing researchers to test hypotheses in silico before expensive and time-consuming lab experiments.
