A Communist Party (KPRF) rally authorized in central Moscow on October 4 to mark the anniversary of the 1993 shelling of the White House was unexpectedly joined by young anti-war protesters, including left-wing activists and Yabloko supporters, who chanted anti-government slogans. Police detained more than 60 people at the demonstration.
