Tropical Storm Isaias formed off eastern Mexico and quickly intensified, becoming the first hurricane of the delayed Atlantic season by late Wednesday, Oct 7, 2026. As of the National Hurricane Center's 10:30pm CDT advisory, Isaias had maximum sustained winds of about 75 mph and a minimum pressure of 982 mb, located roughly 180 miles northwest of Progreso, Mexico, moving east-northeast at 9 mph toward the US Gulf Coast. Hurricane and storm surge warnings have been issued for portions of the northern Gulf Coast, with NHC storm surge flooding maps and local statements issued for Florida communities including Tallahassee and the Tampa Bay area. GDACS estimates about 0.66 million people in the United States could be affected by Category 1-strength winds as the storm approaches landfall later in the week.
