Communities across California are preparing for the arrival of a large underwater warm-water mass known as a 'Kelvin wave', which is nearing southern California and expected to reach the San Francisco Bay Area by early October 2026 as it moves toward Alaska. Waters could rise by about a foot along parts of the North American coastline, raising concerns about coastal flooding.
