Hurricane Rachel, located several hundred miles west of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula, has shown signs of weakening, with satellite imagery on Oct 7, 2026 showing a narrowing convective structure and a dry slot forming. As of the 8pm PDT advisory, Rachel had maximum sustained winds of about 75 mph and a minimum central pressure of 982 mb, moving west-northwest at 7 mph roughly 840 miles from Baja California. GDACS reports no population currently affected by Category 1 wind speeds from Rachel, and the storm poses no immediate threat to land as it tracks further out to sea.
