Tropical Storm Simon formed in the eastern Pacific and was forecast to rapidly intensify as of Wednesday, Oct 7, 2026, with improved organization and curved banding noted on satellite imagery. The storm was located about 165 miles south of Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico, with sustained winds of 50 mph, moving west-northwest at 7 mph. GDACS issued an orange alert for Simon, estimating nearly 91,000 people in Mexico could be affected by Category 1-strength winds (120 km/h or higher) as the system is projected to strengthen further near the Mexican coast.
