Major League Baseball has proposed shortening the regular season from 162 to 154 games starting in 2029, while also expanding the division series from best-of-five to best-of-seven. The proposal was made as part of ongoing collective bargaining discussions with the players' union. The changes, if adopted, would represent one of the most significant structural shifts to MLB's season and postseason in decades, with implications for scheduling, player workload, and broadcast revenue.
