On October 8, 2026, Russian forces struck two commuter buses carrying passengers in the frontline city of Kramatorsk, Donetsk Oblast, likely using a guided bomb. The attack killed at least 30-33 people and injured 18, with bodies strewn across the road; two more people were later killed in a separate drone strike on a civilian car in the city, pushing the day's death toll to 32. Authorities halted public transportation in Kramatorsk and neighboring Sloviansk, the two largest Ukrainian-held cities in Donbas, and three more people were killed in a related attack on the nearby village of Bilenke. The European Commission strongly condemned the strike, vowing that perpetrators would be held accountable, as the incident added to a wave of civilian casualties from escalating Russian attacks across Ukraine.
