Tropical Storm Rachel, located several hundred miles west of the southern tip of Baja California, was losing organization on October 8, with the National Hurricane Center noting its deep convection was 'barely hanging on.' As of 8pm PDT, Rachel had maximum sustained winds of 60 mph and a central pressure of 990 mb, moving west-northwest at 6 mph before an expected turn to the northeast. GDACS reported no population affected by category-1 winds, indicating the storm poses little threat to land.
