A Florida federal judge rejected a bid by Parviz Sabeti, the alleged former head of the Shah of Iran's secret police agency Savak, to halt a lawsuit brought by three former political prisoners accusing him of directing torture. The ruling allows the case to move closer to trial. Sabeti denies the allegations that he led Savak's operations and directed the torture of thousands of dissidents under the pre-1979 monarchy.
