Two tornadoes struck the coastal town of Marsala in western Sicily on Friday morning, injuring dozens of people with at least 11 hospitalized after being struck by flying debris and shattered glass. The waterspouts approached from the Mediterranean Sea and caused extensive damage to buildings including a school, overturned vehicles, and left a trail of devastation across Marsala and the nearby town of Petrosino south of Trapani. Experts described the event as almost unprecedented for the Italian island. The tornadoes developed as part of a powerful storm system affecting the region. Videos captured the two waterspouts visibly approaching the town from the sea as residents attempted to brace for impact. Damage assessment was ongoing as emergency responders assisted the injured.
