On October 10, Russian forces struck residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia with guided aerial bombs, partially destroying a five-storey apartment block and damaging at least 26 other buildings. The death toll climbed through the day from 7 to 17 and finally to 20, including three children, with the number of injured rising to 23 as rescuers pulled a woman alive from rubble after more than eight hours. President Zelensky called it the third mass-casualty Russian attack of the week and accused Moscow of 'thanking' Washington for easing sanctions by bombing civilians. The strike drew sharp international attention because it came just a day after Trump announced a diesel deal with Putin, intensifying criticism that easing sanctions had emboldened rather than restrained Russia. Ukrainian officials used the attack to argue against any further relaxation of pressure on Moscow.
