Researchers in Vienna announced they have built the world's first self-stabilizing nuclear clock, using the nuclei of thorium atoms instead of electrons as in traditional atomic clocks. The nuclei are far less sensitive to outside disturbances, potentially allowing nuclear clocks to surpass atomic clocks in precision and eventually redefine global timekeeping standards.
