Hurricane Simon, a powerful Category 3-equivalent storm with sustained winds near 120 mph and a minimum central pressure of 956 mb, has been moving slowly just offshore of west-central Mexico near Manzanillo as of October 11-12, 2026. The National Hurricane Center has repeatedly warned of destructive winds and flooding rains along the coast, though the storm showed signs of weakening Sunday evening due to prolonged proximity to the coastline and mountainous terrain. GDACS has issued an orange alert estimating 452,000 people could be affected by Category 1 or higher winds. The slow-moving nature of the storm has raised concerns about prolonged heavy rainfall and flooding risk for coastal communities. The storm has been tracked through at least 19 advisories from the NHC, with forecasters continuing to monitor its track and intensity.
