Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin, Florida, as a category 2 storm on Friday, October 9, 2026 (per storyline dating), battering the Florida Panhandle and southern Alabama with damaging winds, heavy rain, flooding and life-threatening storm surge. At least four people were killed, including some from falling trees, and nearly 396,000 customers lost power across the region. Governors of Florida, Alabama and Mississippi declared states of emergency, and millions of residents across Florida, Georgia and Alabama were placed under evacuation orders ahead of landfall. As Isaias weakened to a post-tropical cyclone and moved north, it continued bringing moderate to heavy rainfall across the central Appalachians and mid-Atlantic, with forecasters warning of isolated flash flooding and strong wind gusts extending into the Appalachians. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis noted no search-and-rescue requests had come in, calling it a possible sign residents heeded evacuation warnings, in what was described as a first major test for a downsized FEMA.
